Overview of the Business:
AXP Finance organization drives performance while upholding the company's commitment to regulatory compliance and financial integrity through strategic collaboration with internal business partners and external constituents including the investment community and regulators. By leveraging its unique view that spans across the Blue Box, Finance supports innovation and transformation by helping identify and prioritize the best and most impactful growth opportunities for the company.
Our industry is constantly evolving, and we need courageous, problem solvers who can shape the strategic decisions that lead our Finance organization forward, you can influence both our day-to-day process and the future direction of the business unit. The opportunity will also provide a view into payments industry specifically related to credit card functions.
Corporate Controllership partners with all business divisions and staff groups across the Organization to ensure financial integrity, a strong control environment and enhance shareholder value by delivering financial accounting, reporting, compliance, planning, and advisory services.
Being primary point of contact, provides business advice post reviewing of business contracts, financial reporting and accounting services.
Handles the accounting, reporting & governance for AXP financials.
Advises the business and LFOs on accounting treatment as per accounting policies and guidance.
Corporate Planning & Analysis is a pivotal function with-in the broader Finance organization that leads the company-wide forecasting and planning process, supporting critical ad hoc and strategic analysis of AmEx business and industry. Our remit includes:
Lead AXP & Business Unit Annual Plan and Long-range Plan
Analyze, prepare, and communicate Results, Plans and Outlook to Senior Leadership and Finance business partners.
Ensure integrity of management P&L for internal and external reporting along with driving transformation agenda to improve processes through automation, streamlining and adoption of new age tools and capabilities.
Global Tax Organization covers a wide range of international jurisdictions supporting US GAAP tax provisioning, and liaising with a third-party provider in connection with local statutory reporting and compliance responsibilities
To provide sound tax analysis, practical and accurate tax advisory and identify improvement opportunities from direct tax, transfer pricing and indirect tax perspectives.
Ensure that most appropriate positions are taken in external audits; negotiate strategically with relevant auditors for optimal outcome.
Proactively participate in business initiatives and other projects to drive tax efficiency. Reach out proactively to educate/alert local management on the importance of corporate relationships and planning to tax matters and favorable business outcomes.
Global Treasury Operations (GTO) organization has regional operations teams across APAC, EMEA, US, Canada, and LAC. Also, GTO comprises of specialized teams like Treasury Technologies focusing on business/payment consultation services, and Bank Services COE that supports regional operations teams and various Business Divisions with their banking requirements.
Daily cash management to ensure sufficient cash availability at all points of time in 1400+ bank accounts for 180+ legal entities held with 200+ bank partners.
Cash management of 13 APAC markets and clearing/hedging of FX exposures for restricted currency markets in the region.
Courageous, quick problem solvers who can shape the strategic decisions that lead our organization forward whether it’s core processes, control & compliance, reporting or creating insights/visibility.
Regulatory Reporting team is a critical function with-in the broader Finance and External reporting organization that leads preparation, filling, and analysis of key the US Regulatory Reports on behalf of AXP, to the regulators like Federal Reserve. Our remit includes:
Understand regulatory reporting requirements and apply/implement the same to the reports.
Identify, coordinate, and implement operational improvement across reports.
Ensure appropriate governance and controls over process.
Job Responsibilities:
This internship role in Finance organization will open-up opportunity to intern in above functions of Finance. It is a project-based program that provides you with the opportunity to address real business challenge for the organization and will entail:
Understand the core business of AXP and the levers behind various decisions.
Develop substantial data insights/trends to enable finance decision support to our customer’s/business partners for more effective planning & forecasting activities.
Understand the specific business problem at hand and analyze relevant data to derive business insights.
Translate business insights to implementable solutions such as business strategies.
Drive transformational agenda including developing driver-based planning models.
Analyze & develop useful, actionable insights on key performance measurements, revenue & expenses.
Qualifications
Skills/ Experience Required:
Analytical & Critical Thinking: Strong interest in analytics and ability to draw value insights from large amounts of financial data. Solid ability to adopt a broad perspective and link business strategies to specific initiatives.
White Space Thinking: Willing to challenge the status quo and develop new ways of explaining business performance.
Results Leadership: Ability to work under pressure, navigate through ambiguity, draw linkages, and balance multiple priorities.
Communication: Capable of translating complex stories into digestible takeaways and articulate key messages across multiple audiences globally.
Project Management: Effective project management & transformation skills with the ability to drive, collaborate, influence, and coordinate with internal and external partners, including senior leaders.
Relationship building: Ability to form relationships and influence at all levels, both internally and externally
Strong work ethic: Demonstrate will-to-win and personal excellence.
Qualification:
Currently enrolled in a full-time master’s degree program
Financial competence with an ability to understand various drivers of financial documents
Strong technical proficiency and ability to work with Technology to drive solutions
Working knowledge of latest data analytics tools like SQL, Python, yellowbrick, Tableau and Power BI will be an advantage
Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, knowledge of Macros/VBA will of good advantage
